Qwest merger meeting photos
From Denver's Pepsi Center, on July 5, 2000 employees of both Qwest and
US West held a gathering to
hear from CEO Joe Nacchio about the goals and future of the new Qwest. Below are photos taken prior to the start
of the event due to limitations on photography during the event and of the event. These
restrictions were only announced just before the start of the gathering.
A side-view of the giant "Q" structure that was the center stage for the event. Nacchio
drove a Qwest van up the incline in the center of the "Q" as an entrance.
Another view of the "Q" and the extensive lighting setup. The three screens in the back were
used along with two others to show the employees gathered in the Pepsi Center the stage area.
Prior to the start of the event, scenes of postcards with each city of operation were placed on
the screen with a welcome note to the new Qwest.
The crowd was VERY large and covered the two-thirds (?) of the Pepsi Center available for
seating on all levels quite easily. To stage left there was a boom camera which was used
for sweeping views of crowd reaction and overhead pans to Joe's speech. There were large
signs with numbers at each main row with a microphone for the Q & A session following the
speech from Nacchio.
