Connie Dover Concert - February 2, 2002 The concert lasted about 2 hours with a 30-minute intermission and included some solos from each performer as well as many songs performed together. Connie was very quick-witted during the concert and during a few technical glitches she made some fairly funny jokes ("Ok...so what are your names" shed asked the audience while trying stall for time to fix her keyboard and "How many surrealists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A fish." during another pause). She also asked what a "dell" was since she had heard of the Wisconsin Dells, she was informed during the break that it was the characteristic narrowing of a river as occurs in the Wisconsin River and thus gives the area it's name, additionally she was told it is a place where a farmer stands. At one point during the concert, Connie found a piece of cheese that had been left on her songbook as a souvenir of Wisconsin, she placed it on the floor by Roger, who promptly scooped it up with a sheet of music and tossed it to the side. Such disregard for good cheese... As an encore after the concert, Connie, Roger and the entire audience sang the Irish ballad "Red is the Rose." I enjoyed hearing Connie Dover in concert and it reinforced my respect for her amazing voice. The music of Roger Landes were something I wasn't as familiar with, and the experience gave me new appreciation for the guitar and related instruments in the Irish tradition as well as this accomplished artist.
