Denver - Summer 2000
OK, so this photo has nothing to do with the usual happenings in Denver, but I really do like it
the best of all the photos, so it is first. Anyway, I am in Denver while doing a Summer 2000 Internship
with US West (which is now Qwest). I'm
working with the Cold Fusion programming language (a language which builds dynamic web pages and such based on
user input). Specifically I'm working in the MIDS (Marketing Information and Decision Support) area of US West's
Intranet, maintaining the site to provide competitive and statistical information to internal business units. I'm also
creating tools to provide the different research groups with the ability to update their report areas through a
database and file structure system that is completely controlled by the end user with very little difficulty.
Now that the introduction is over, lets go to the photos of Denver
I often go on walks downtown during the second half of my lunch break and take photos
of the different areas and things I encounter. This is one of my favorite shots. It was
taken from the walkway around the dome of the capitol building and it shows the City and County Building across the
park and the foothills in the background.
While we're in the capitol, here's the interior side of a stained glass window, one of many
depicting important figures in the history of Colorado.
These weren't all taken in one sitting, but here is another photo from the capitol that overlays
some of the nice metalwork along the stairways with an American flag in the background.
We're getting closer to the end of these capitol photos, this is a photo of the stairs leading up
to the area below the stairs to the actual building, where the famous round marker declares that one
of the steps is exactly one mile above sea level.
As we move away from the capitol building, here is a photo I like to call
"Separation of Church and State." This photo of the main cathedral (I belive it is St. Mary's)
was taken from the dome of the state capitol. The cathedral is breathtaking from afar but on
the inside, it is shaped more like a box without the slopes and stonework that one would expect from
such a structure.
The stained glass inside the cathedral is somewhat boring and dark overall, but I liked
this pane more than the rest.
This panoramic (click on the photo for a larger version) was also taken from the capitol dome and shows
the park below as well as the main section of downtown to the right.
